On October 8th 2014 the MJC Speech and Debate Team presented to a packed house of students and community members. The evening included memorable performances by several of MJC's award winning speech and debate squad. Jon Sahlman started out the night with his communication analysis speech exploring the "Stop Telling Women to Smile" campaign. He was followed by Caterina Grossi and her persuasive speech advocating an end on the ban prohibiting three parent in vitro fertilization. Next up was Rick Morris performing a dramatic interpretation of a piece entitled "My Fathers Son." Ronald Thompson went on to perform an impromptu speech based on a Mark Twain quotation. Wrapping up the speeches was James Baugh with his after dinner speech on the problems of "christianism." The whole evening was topped off with a lively Parliamentary / Lincoln-Douglas style debate on the resolution "The State of California Should Legalize Marijuana for recreational use."
Overall the night was a big success for the team. Both performances went off without a hitch and fun was had by all. An archive of the event can be found below.
